(Editor’s note It was such a pleasure to edit A Dark Amish Night. Amish mystery is not a genre I typically read, but this book was one I couldn't put down! Even while correcting grammar and spelling mistakes, the story held me spellbound! I had to read the book 3 times during the editing process to make sure I caught mistakes. The story was so interesting that I could have easily skimmed over mistakes the first time through. I hope readers will enjoy the book as much as I did!~ Sarah J. R. Smith, editor)

A Dark Amish Night edition by Jenny Moews Romance eBooks

At times reminiscent of The Witness, A Dark Amish Night by Jenny Moews is a very thrilling book to match wits against. Nothing is darker than murder, unless it could be the murder of an innocent Amish man while his ten-year-old sleeps in their buggy nearby.
Thus begins Hannah Hershberger's desire to escape the danger of her farm, far out in the boondocks, and return to Heaven, the local town. Sheriff Quinn Ramsey investigates the murder of Hannah's husband and soon finds his hands full. His array of suspects is small, his attempts to protect Hannah are discouraged by the People, and he finds himself attracted to Hannah. Which of course is unacceptable. Englishers and Amish mix like oil and water and Hannah's bishop is determined to keep Hannah in the fold. Meanwhile, the biggest clues to the murderer's identity are trapped in the mind of one silent, morose ten-year-old. With twists and turns aplenty, the resolution of the murder left me spinning.

This is the first book in the Dark Amish series set in Oklahoma. I really enjoyed the complexity of the crime and also the relationship that develops between Hannah and Quinn. Jenny does a great job explaining the ways of the Amish, especially the New Order Amish of Oklahoma. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and hope it will contain more exciting, challenging situations (how can I say, murder)?!

I was gifted a copy of this book from the author. This review is my honest opinion.

A Dark Amish Night edition by Jenny Moews Romance eBooks Reviews

The mystery was good, I was surprised at ending. I liked the characters, I became really invested in them. The book flowed. An Amish book that wasn't preachy, one that all readers could enjoy. Just a good book where Amish was part of the character of the book. Where the book was good w/o intimate love scenes. Which I also like to read. It's just nice to read a love story where the book is good enough w/o & doesn't really need it & you still feel the love. A very pleasant read--I read in one sitting.
However there was one thing I didn't like that almost earned it a 3+. Her marriage was one of deep love--it was unbelievable to me that she could IMMEDIATELY feel attraction to another man. Then to go on to fall deeply in love. Not enough time between, not enough developed about what would have to be a conflict, not enough grief/mourning of her husband. That part of the character definitely need to be developed. I kept waiting for that to happen--& took away from the book. I think this may be a new author as she only has this book in . I think she has much promise of being a very good author if her characters were a little more developed. But I would definitely recommend & read more of her books.
Jenny is a new author, not only for me but I think this is her first book as I can't find anything else she's written. With that being said, I was really impressed with this book. It was a good mystery with a lot of twists, turns and secrets. I do hope to see some more books written by her. My only problem, and I don't blame this all on the author, are the errors you have to overlook. Like misspellings, added words, etc. This is not the only e-book I've had this problem with so I am blaming it on the auto-correct as far as spelling and grammar go. The story was great though!
Very good story line...Characters are well developed..Enjoyed this surprising ending!!! Happy to see an Amish author who can apply real life to the Amish way of life...Always enjoy Amish novels...This one is outstanding for it's forthright happy ending!!! Bad features so many grammar errors and some of the sentence structure is just plain bad as well as some spelling errors..Usually the Amish writers pride themselves on their well written novels..Whoever reviewed the manuscript for Jenny Moews, did her a disservice!!
What a mystery Sheriff Quinn has in trying to solve the death of Hannah's husband Eric while keeping her and her children safe. I liked that the author points out the differences between some of the Amish groups. The author leaves you hanging in wondering what Quinn will do to support his new family since he resigned as sheriff of Heaven. A good opening for another book???
This is my first Amish story. I've wondered why these stories are so popular. If they are all mysterious like this one, then I understand. This books is a page turner because you want to know who did it! And you think you have a clue, but you don't! Total surprise and I loved the ending. Five stars to this new Amish author!
Was so good, I read this book this morning & not much else. LOL
An Amish family, he finds out some things, the bad people make certain he tells no one, his son keeps what he knows a secret. The sheriff working on this case becomes attracted to his wife (widow). But he is English and she is Amish. There is still a mystery as to who & why. Then when you think you have it figured out, you find out who is criminal(s).
*** And if there is ever a time to really dislike the Amish 'religion' it is in this book *** Well written book despite having a few misspells or leaving out a word - but nothing to keep you from enjoying this book.
I loved this book. The author has combined the Amish community, a mystery and romance and written a story that was impossible to put it down after I had started it. There are lots of twists and turns in the story as Quinn, a law enforcement officer, attempts to solve the mystery about what happened to an Eric, an Amish farmer, and also keep Eric's widow, Hannah and their children safe. The story line also follows Quinn and Hannah and their relationship as they begin to realize the feelings they have for each other and attempt to find a way to be together. This is certainly not the usual Amish story, but it is one I thoroughly enjoyed and definitely recommend.
