For beginner and intermediate users, Adobe’s Photoshop software can be overwhelming with its vast amount of tools and features. Although diving right into the program is a good way to learn, investing the time to learn the basics can go a long way towards understanding how to use Photoshop.

Photoshop’s toolbar is one of the most important features of the program. Even tools that seem simple and straightforward can cause confusion and frustration. By taking the time to read about how to use each tool, you’ll eliminate the frustration that many beginners and intermediate users experience.

Unlike many books on Photoshop, this is more than just a giant tutorial. This book guides you through each tool on the toolbar, including the tools in the submenus. There are no files to download. Every example uses a blank canvas, or you can use any photo from your computer. Simple explanations make following along easy, and information is frequently repeated to make sure some of the best tips and tricks are well remembered.

What you’ll learn in this book
•Learn how to use each tool through easy to understand explanations and examples.
•Learn about each tool’s options in the options bar.
•Learn keyboard shortcuts and tips on how to make Photoshop easy to use.
•Learn how to use many of Photoshop’s others features.

Whether you're a beginner or intermediate user, this book will be one of the best investments you make towards becoming a Photoshop pro.

This book was helpful for me. I'm not a total beginner, so I was able to pick up on a lot of information without having to walk through it on Photoshop. There were quite a few tools I thought I knew how to use, but I learned new ways to use them and how to use them better. I didn't know that keys were so important to use with the tools, and that the Shift or Alt key could be so useful.

I'm very happy I took the time to read this. I did skip a few tools that I don't think I'll use, but I've already referred back to this book a few times. It's like all the information on the Internet, except it's compiled in an easy to understand way and well organized. Also, it does go beyond the toolbar. I think total beginners would be able to follow easily.

Clear and concise. You can follow along and use the tools while reading. Best explanation of the tool bar that I have seen.
It does describe the toolbar well.
Great
Very clear and love to have it at hand while learning!
This book goes beyond the toolbar. There's information on layers and blending modes, and I was impressed with how much helpful information was packed into 89 pages. Classroom in a Book is nearly 450 pages, and it's not nearly helpful in explaining how the tools actually work. The big, thick books on Photoshop seem to be better at walking you through tutorials, but the author of this book actually talks to you like a person, which makes it easy to understand how the tools actually work.
I'm pretty useless when it comes to Photoshop but I found this book very helpful. Everything is explained clearly with pictures and the writing isn't dry or boring. There probably is something new for anyone to learn here but especially as a beginner, I found it invaluable.
Easy to follow and very well organized! I have zero experience with Photoshop and need to learn it for my job, so I've been cramming with about every resource I can find. This book goes through all the tools on the toolbar and some of Phototshop's other features.

I opened this book on my iPad and opened Photoshop on my MacBook. I went through the whole book trying to use each tool as the author explained. Success! If I (not so tech savvy) can figure it out, anyone can.

Photoshop is looking less and less intimidating to me. I highly recommend this book!
