One year after the zombie plague ravaged humanity in what would become known as The Fall, the survivors in Kentucky struggle on. They have faced swarms of undead and war with living men, but in the third collection of the story they face their most powerful enemy yet.

Each other.

Written in journal format (in this case, as a blog), Living With the Dead is the day-to-day story of life and living in the zombie apocalypse. Told in real time, you can join the narrator in the struggle to survive, to unite, and to build again while faced with danger, betrayal, and dwindling resources.

In a world of the dead, the only option is to learn how to truly live.

The Hungry Land Living With the Dead Book 3 eBook Joshua Guess

I'm a huge fan of Living with the Dead by Joshua Guess - see my reviews for Book 1 and 2.

I am not much for the blog b/c it drives me crazy to read just one entry a day. So I was excited to see that both Book 3 and Book 4 are now available. Just finished Book 3 The Hungry Land and I think Guess is getting better. The characters are fully fleshed (ooooh, bad pun, considering) and I love that Guess the author does not spare Guess the character when he acts like an, hmm, I bet Amazon won't let me say what I was going to say, so let's use "fool".

What I like about this series, and what I respect Guess for, is the realism. (Yeah, I know zombies, but bear with me.) The characters are not "good guys" and "bad guys". They are individuals who can be both. Just when you think you have a character figured out he/she acts or reacts in a surprising way, like Will. And while there is plenty of zombie fighting, Guess focuses on the human needs and interactions and the inevitable conflicts that arise when people are crammed together, living in constant fear and getting hungrier and hungrier.

And just when you might have forgotten, Guess writes a scene at the end of the book of a lone zombie and a fading advertisement that will stop you in your tracks. What makes us human?

Yes, there is too much of Guess' philosophizing, but this is a guy living with the dead, he's entitled to ask what is the meaning of life every now and then. And there is plenty of action against the dead and the living. On to Book 4.

The Hungry Land Living With the Dead Book 3 eBook Joshua Guess Reviews

I read the first two and continued being captivated by this book.
I keep saying that this should be on amc - more realistic than walking dead esp what they did with it this season.
I consider work like this on a blog the modern day equivalent to diary entry writing which was huge in England during the Victorian era - just look at Dracula. This is on that scale for today -) Valerie Hist. Prof.
I book made me feel like I was part of the story. I laughed, cried and got angry at the different situation. I also have a crush on Will Price. You'll see what I mean.
I truly enjoyed this edition of LWTD. While it was much darker than the first year, it also seemed more realistic to me. Bad things happen in a good world, so many more awful things are bound to happen in the apocalypse. The only reason for 4 stars is because I am still wishing there were moments of actual speaking, instead of just blogs. Still a great read though. On to the next installment!
I am enjoying this series, I read the first two books overnight, and bought the third one (this one) this morning and am just about finished with it.
The books are a fictional series of blog posts about surviving in a post zom-pocalyptic world.
I have been a zombie phase lately, and this is one of the best zombie series I have read yet.
I will point out though, that above the obvious cleaning up it needs, there are some unbelievable scenarios happening in the third book. I don't want to spoil it by stating what they are, and besides they are easy to ignore as the rest of the book is a very good book.
I hope it doesn't start doing what so many other series start doing after a few books, and go off track, or become Pollyanna-ish.
Book three and I need to rest, I am not reading book four until I read some other Zombie story.
I feel just worn out, book three was everything that could happen, happened. No food, Zombie hoards, cowards and the most wonderful help you could wish for.
Bloody good read, how Joshua keeps finding new things for his blog is beyond me, to be able to write such a convincing story and make me hate some people and feel the warmth of others is incredible.
Well written, good story line and not fun. But then you wouldn't expect the Zombie apocalypse to be fun!
Well done again Joshua.
This installment of the series was tough. The people in the story go through some truly horrific situations. It breaks some while others just fight harder to keep things going. I could feel the despair, the fear, and the anger that the main characters had to deal with. This series is crazy good. I'm off to start the next book.
If you liked Max Brooke's book "World War Z, You'll probably like this series. A lot of books about the zombie apocalypse are nothing more than a list of bloody, gruesome ways to die. This series is about a group of people surviving.

Josh and his wife have turned their neighborhood into a small fortified city. The zombies have begun to evolve, becoming more intelligent and harder to kill.

It was written as a blog, a man sitting down at the end of the day to write about what he has done, is planning to do and his worries. The main character, Josh is based on the author and so are several other characters. Many other people in the book are based on real people. This series has kept me awake. I kept needing to read just one more blog entry.

I originally got the first 4 books when they were on sale free. I've enjoyed them so much, that I deleted the books from my library so I could buy them again and put money in the authors pocket. He needs to write more.
